Pain, vomiting, and loss of appetite - the consequences of an upset stomach can be extremely unpleasant. A lot of times an upset stomach is also accompanied with heartburn. These symptoms are often be caused by our everyday stress. Fortunately, if these issues are caught in time, a diet made out of stomach-friendly foods can usually help.

If you're experiencing these symptoms, make sure to avoid fatty foods, alcohol and cigarettes. You should opt for foods that are gentle on your stomach and easy to digest, and in small portions. It's very important that these stomach-friendly foods are eaten without a lot of seasoning, and neither too hot or too cold. 

Top Stomach-Friendly Foods

Bananas

Two or three bananas a day can have a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Bananas can also act as a protective layer over the stomach lining, protecting it from stomach acid. Additionally, bananas provide important magnesium, which can help calm nerves in stressful situations.

Fennel

Fennel is not popular with everyone; however, it has been a reliable home remedy for everyday ailments for a long time. Fennel stimulates blood circulation and kills bacteria. It also has a calming effect on a nervous stomach. This is because of the abundant essential oils it contains. Fennel's combination of vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, folic acid and other nutrients are also known to alleviate stress and calm the nerves, which are leading causes of a nervous stomach.

Cream Cheese

Cream cheese is a great source of protein and much easier to digest than most other cheeses. Make sure the cream cheese is low fat, and that it doesn't contain any additional spices like onions or garlic, which can aggravate a sensitive stomach.

Carrots

Carrots are rich in vitamins and easy to digest. In addition, nutrients in carrots support important functions in the gastrointestinal tract. Make sure to cook carrots only gently, to maintain as much of their nutrients as possible. 

Potatoes

Potatoes are a great food for the stomach as they can neutralize stomach acid and protect the stomach lining. Boiling or mashing potatoes makes them even easier to digest.
